Educational Program

In our program we focus on a play-based curriculum as a context for learning. We believe that an environment that supports learning through play provides opportunities for children to learn as they discover, explore, problem solve, construct, imagine, and build meaningful relationships.

Programming is also guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) which describes the principles, practice and outcomes essential to support and enhance young children's learning from birth to five years of age, as well as their transition to school. The Early Years Learning Framework describes childhood as a time of belonging, being, becoming.

Belonging: is the basis from which children have a sense of belonging built from the relationships they have with their family, community, culture and place.

Being: is about the importance of childhood and the living in the here and now.

Becoming: is about the learning and development that young children experience in the early years. Children begin to develop a sense of identity during these early years.

Through the Framework's five learning goals Educators will assist your child to develop:

  • A strong sense of identity
  • Connections with their world
  • A strong sense of wellbeing
  • Confidence and involvement in their learning; and
  • Effective communication skills

We believe learning is promoted through emergent, child-initiated and intentional teaching experiences and interactions. Educators value and build upon children's strengths, skills and knowledge. Open-ended experiences are provided with children given time, space and materials to express their own ideas and thinking.

Living Faith Early Learning Centre provides a caring and supportive environment where children have the opportunity to develop to their full potential. We seek to build a strong foundation for future learning.

Portfolios

Each child has a digital portfolio where staff record observations, developmental information, photos, art work, celebrations, interests, family information, songs and poems. These are available for families to view at any time.

Feedback and Concerns

Living Faith Early Learning Centre values and supports feedback and suggestions from families. There are feedback/suggestion forms located in the foyer that families are welcome to fill in at any time they wish to provide feedback. The Centre also distributes annual family surveys to assist us in our ongoing commitment to quality improvement.

If families have concerns the first step is to approach the Director to discuss the matter. It is important to express how you feel clearly and be open to working with the Director to resolve the matter. This may involve more than one discussion.

Concerns that are unresolved can be referred to the Children's Services Manager (CSM) verbally or in writing. Contact details for the CSM are:

Policies

The Centre has a detailed copy of all policies and procedures which are available in the parent library located in the foyer. The policies cover all aspects of operation and management of Living Faith Early Learning Centre. Your comments on these policies are important therefore if at any time you feel a policy needs to be reviewed and/or established please discuss this with the Director. Policies and Procedures are reviewed regularly.

Photographs

Centre photographs are taken annually and information is provided to families on dates, times and costs.

Educators also have access to digital cameras which they use on a daily basis to photograph the children. These photos become the basis of our daily visual diaries which are displayed in each room. Photographs are also used to document your child's learning journey throughout the year.

Pastor/Jesus time

The Centre has established a strong connection with the congregation at the Living Faith Lutheran Church at Murrumba Downs. Throughout the year members from the Church attend the Centre on a regular basis for Jesus Time with the children. This is a time where all the children from the Centre come together for story-telling, singing and prayer. This special time is aimed at encouraging an awareness and appreciation of Jesus and supports our strong Christian Ethos.
